Bangladesh has confirmed the highest number of
641 coronavirus cases in a single day after testing 4,968 samples and
eight more deaths from the virus in the last 24 hours.
With this, the death toll from the deadly virus rose to 163 and the number of total infections stood at 7,103 .
"Among the dead patients, six were male, two
female and four of them were aged above 60. Six were residents of Dhaka
and two lived outside of the capital," Additional Director General of
Health Directorate Nasima Sultana made the disclosure during a virtual
briefing today.
She also said that among the total 163 patients who have died so far - 137 are from Dhaka division.
Some 11 patients recovered in last 24 hours, increasing the total number of cured patients at 150.
Some 4, 706 samples were collected in last 24
hours and tested 4,968. A total of 59,701 samples have been tested till
date," Nasima added.
However, one-fourth of the total infected patients
are receiving treatment at different hospitals of the country, while
three-fourth them are staying home.
Sample collection has increased by 9.21% compared
to the previous day and 14.68% increase was reported for PCR testing
across the country.
Nasima Sultana said the authorities took 104 new
individuals suspected of having Covid-19 into isolation – bringing the
total to 1,340 after 833 left. The country is capable of accommodating
3635 people for service at 601 isolation wards across the country.
Currently, there are 9738 isolation beds, 341 ICU
facilities and 102 dialysis beds are available for the treatment of
coronavirus infected patients in the country.
As many as 3,616,691 hotline services were given
by 15,480 trained doctors via three designated numbers, including 75,115
in last 24-hour till 8am today. Through mobile phone and websites,
1,562,815 services were provided, including 31,124 new services, added
Nasima.
Till date, a total of 676,439 thermal screenings
were conducted at different ports, including 331 at airports, 225 at
seaports and 61 at land ports in the last 24 hours.
Currently, 358,334 personal protective equipment (PPEs) are in the government stock, including 60,402 newly collected ones.
The health directorate has given permission to
three private hospitals in Dhaka city, including - Evercare Hospital
Dhaka, United Hospital and Square Hospitals - to perform Covid-19 tests.
This facility, however, will only be applicable to the indoor service
patients of the respective hospitals.
The charge for testing coronavirus infection will be the amount determined by DGHS, Dr Nasima added.
The virus has killed 218,178 people globally and infected 3,146,808 so far.
